I believe the two most powerful weapons we have in this world are the Living Word of God, and our tongues. And I know tongues are just weird and gross when you think of it literally, so why am I saying our tongues are powerful? We have the power to speak LIFE or DEATH. Our tongues can bless and they can curse. They can uplift or they can destroy. They can lie and they can speak truth. Matthew 12:35-36 says, “The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak…” Whoa. That’s a LOT of words.
This is why we see our husbands deflate with just a couple harsh words leaving our lips. This is why he shuts down and feels disrespected when we are short or snappy with him. Let’s speak life into our husbands! They have SO much pressure on them from everyone and everything else; providing for their families, succeeding at their jobs and ministries, feeling as if they fail daily, and leading their families in the way of the Lord. Not an easy job being a man! We need to be a source of encouragement and light in their lives under Jesus Christ. Whether we have had the toughest, longest or most stressful day, our response to our husbands is our responsibility. When we choose to uplift, whether or not we are holding on to just a small piece of sanity, his spirit is instantly energized and the entire mood changes, including yours. Christ desires this type of relationship between us!
Let me make sure to let you know, I AM NOT PERFECT AT THIS AT ALL! I let my flesh and my emotions speak over what I know to be truth and in the Word of God. But my husband is the most gracious and forgiving man I have ever known, just as our Father in Heaven forgives us and extends grace to us.
This not only applies to our husbands but others as well. We might be having a bad day but the Lord still wants to bless someone else who is having a bad day through us. Or maybe we are having the most awesome day ever and notice a friend who is struggling. No matter the situation, take the opportunity to speak life into that person’s life. It can lighten their spirit instantly and change the whole direction of their thinking.
Take some time today to reflect on God’s Word, so that we can know it and speak it out into existence!!!!!
One of my favorite verses to encourage…
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
