Hello everyone!!! I have missed you!
It has been a while but I am excited to announce that we have finally remodeled our bedroom! When I say
remodel, I really mean a few cosmetic updates, some furniture painting and accessories were added. Either way, I have been waiting a couple of months to show you the hard work both my husband and I have put into this.
Let me explain why I felt the need to do this! I stumbled across this article over at Club 31 Women, and felt so inspired. My husband and I had just bought and moved into our first home, and after a couple months of saving up he agreed to start this project with me!
I’ll begin by saying I was in no way unsatisfied with the way our room looked. I had just begun decluttering some things in the house (by the way, the perfect time I think to do this is when moving… you see how much stuff you accumulate after just a year of marriage!) and every time I would enter the bedroom I would think of that article. I prayed and asked God if this was something selfish I just wanted to do to make it “pretty” or something that was laid on my heart by Him. I believe in praying about every decision, whether it seems big or small and have been open to the Spirit in this area. I felt Him give me the go ahead, knowing my motivation was ultimately to invest into our marriage and have a place where my husband and I can always come to while we are in this season of life!
The three main reasons I felt the nudge to start this makeover were these:
- Having a safe place: I don’t necessarily mean physically safe as in protection from a giant tornado or preventing me from falling off the bed and injuring myself (not that that has happened before…), but a place where we can feel safe spiritually and emotionally with each other. Our bedroom is somewhere where we can shut the door and connect spiritually, emotionally, physically, and not have to think about the chaos and troubles outside that door! It’s a place we spend a lot of time in!
- A Place to Rest & Relax: Sleeping in the bedroom… who would have thought!!! Resting to me is so much more though than just sleeping! We do not have kids yet, so spending time together is not near as difficult as it could be, but I love starting the habit of having our room be our relaxation getaway before kiddos enter the picture!! We try to keep it picked up and cleaned more than any other room in the house. Would anyone agree that things lying around everywhere and taking up so much space creates a feeling of tension in the room? I’m not saying we are spotless neat freaks — we like to throw clothes on the floor, dresser, bed, pretty much any space we can. But we do make it a point to put a little more effort into this room than others.
- A Place to Create: I love walking in our room, and feeling so happy to know that my husband and I were able to take on this project together, and put both of our tastes into it. I don’t get many opportunities to let my creative juices flow, so whenever I look around the room it inspires me in so many ways! To grow spiritually, write, read, and have great conversations.
Now for the good stuff… the before and after! Take a look at where we started:
Here is the good stuff… Check under each picture for where certain items came from, you might be surprised! 🙂
Pillows: Ross Dress For Less
“Love You Always” Wall Decal: Amazon
I have to take a second here and speak about Emily from Hope Ink for a bit! She is such a talented person; she creates different size prints of pretty much anything you could think of! Scriptures, pictures, quotes and holiday themed prints as well. I was fortunate enough to be introduced to this amazing shop when purchasing The Ultimate DIY Bundle 2015 through Ultimate Bundles (more info to come on that later), where I received a $15 credit to the Hope Ink shop and 2 FREE 8×10 prints with my order. After receiving my first order very much sooner than I expected, I was pleased to see she also included a 10% off code to use for my next order! It came in handy when I purchased these two prints you see hanging in our room. I strongly encourage you to check out her shop!
This was a gift from my mom, I believe she bought it at Ross probably for a great price! It is a shadow frame with the Love You Always painted on the top glass.
Lamp: I bought this at Walmart on clearance! $12!
The candle holder was also a gift from my mom from Yankee Candle for this candle lover 🙂 If you walk into any room in my house, you can be sure there will be a candle in it. It gives off such a beautiful light when the candle inside is lit. I am currently using the Watermelon Lemonade candle from Bath & Body Works –> This candle as well as all three wick candles are on sale for $12, normally $20.

Candle holder from Yankee Candle –> The one shown in the picture is currently out of stock
Wedding Day Picture in a heart frame from Hobby Lobby
This might sound silly but I have seen this laundry basket at Walmart for months and it finally was marked down to $12… I couldn’t resist anymore and my husband was surprised I had resisted thus far. I am a chevron lover, so this was a perfect fit for our room.
Well there it is! Before I wrap up I just wanted to say we did not spend thousands of dollars on this room, but less than $400, including all the added pieces we put in over time. I hope this inspires you to be creative in different areas of your life, and know you don’t have to break the bank to make a few changes! Change up the paint color, add a few cute accessories and it feels like a completely different room.
Please contact me or comment here if you have any other questions for me, or wish to share your own creative home makeovers 🙂 God Bless!
